Arie Lagoon

Negombo is a quiet town on the west coast of Sri Lanka located 16 km from Bandaranaike International Airport. Deriving its name from the Negombo lagoon, the modest village is known for its white sandy beaches and refreshing blue waters. The town is also one of the commercial hubs of the country of Sri Lanka.

Having a rich history of the trade of spices and seafood, the town today has become one of the most visited places in the country. Even today, one can see the reflection of the 'city's Dutch and Portuguese history, in its food, architecture and people. While the town is most famous for its blue waters, there are other attractions and activities such as the Old Dutch fort and the canal, the Angurukaamulla temple, boat trips and canal sailing that are sure to leave one amazed and with memories of a lifetime.

The town is also known for its shopping. This shopping does not include any high-end malls but hand-made products and jewellery that are not only cost-effective and charming, but they also tell one about the years of ancient traditions of the country. The town is also bliss for food-lovers because of its availability of various seafood items and spices that make up for the ingredients of gourmet food. The city is also known for its hand-made ceramic and brassware items, a practice going on since the Dutch and the Portuguese invasion. Negombo is a must-visit town.
